In Review: Moonlight Feels Right - Starbuck

Starbuck’s Bruce Blackman has been charming hearts and topping charts in the music scene since 1976. Nearly 49 years later, Blackman’s fans are still movin’ and groovin’ to new hits such as “Jones About You” and Renaissance Records’ Moonlight Feels Right: The Collection 1975-2023 - album on vinyl.

The title track “Moonlight Feels Right” has held up as one of the most popular songs of the 1970s, and copies of the collection continue to fly off the shelves in 2024.

Blackman’s  wonderfully distinct voice transcends time and cultures; an icon for both his white flat-cap and songs that continue to sell albums to devoted fans and new listeners. With a dazzling voice and beats that demand to be danced to, Moonlight Feels Right: The Collection 1975-2023, is a perfect album for any fun-loving vinyl enthusiast.

In Moonlight Feels Right: The Collection 1975-2023, Blackman takes the listener’s hand and whisks them away into a technicolor dreamscape on the beach. The album celebrates the “yacht rock” sounds danced to decades before, transporting us to a beachside fantasy filled with romance, whimsy, and delightful nostalgia.

Songs like “Ma Jolie Mademoiselle” (track 26) and “Steam Dream Fahrenheit” (track 24), depict  love stories that have withstood the test of time. “And when you feel lonely / My open arms are here for you.” “I danced with her in the starlight / Slow, close and tight.” While our hearts continue to yearn for Mademoiselle, and our bodies dance within a Steam Dream, spinning the vinyl leaves us falling back into those open arms as we rediscover music that defined an era.

While listening to this 35-track, triple LP, I believe that both Bruce Blackman and our team at Renaissance Records can assure you that you’ll be just as happy as the monkey in the coconut tree from “Lucky Man” (track 28). Sip a mojito from “I Love Doing Nothing” (track 2), and spin Moonlight Feels Right: The Collection 1975-2023 on 180 gram turquoise and dark green marble vinyl, now available in our website shop.

We sincerely hope you love this album as much as we do.

By purchasing Moonlight Feels Right: The Collection 1975-2023, and subscribing to the Renaissance Records newsletter, listeners will receive an exclusive copy of the first chapter of Bruce Blackman’s memoir, “The Road to Moonlight Feels Right.” In the book, our beloved musician and storyteller colorfully illustrates behind-the-scenes stories that led to his rise of fame, sprinkled with his signature wit and charm.

At Renaissance Records, it’s no secret that we adore Starbuck just as much as those who were dancing to their hits in the 1970s. For the first time ever, we’ve created a merchandise line in collaboration with Blackman. Fans can now don Starbuck hats, shirts, tote bags, and even coffee mugs with iconic imagery from the band.
