Tony Carey is an American-born, European-based musician, composer, producer, and singer/songwriter. One of his earliest musical experiences was as a keyboardist for Rainbow. After his departure 1977, he began a solo career, releasing albums under his own name as well under the pseudonym Planet P Project, and producing for and performing with other artists.
Carey left Rainbow in 1977 and moved to Germany in 1978, where he began work on his solo career.The studio's other co-owner, producer Peter Hauke, and he subsequently recorded a great deal of instrumental music in many different styles, learning how to engineer as well as perform in the recording studio.
Carey released his album I Won't Be Home Tonight in 1982, along with the single (and music video) "West Coast Summer Nights". The album peaked at #167 on the Billboard 200, and the single peaked at #64 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The title track was also released as a single, peaking at #79 on the Hot 100 and #8 on Billboard's Top Rock Tracks chart.
Over the ensuing decades he has written and recorded nigh on thirty albums – both as a solo artist and with the classy Planet P Project – covering a wide palette of styles from Melodic Rock and futuristic Electronica to instrumental efforts which showcase not just Carey's adept keyboard skills but also reveal a warm, emotive voice and a rare song-writing talent.
2019 marked Carey's 50th Anniversary as a self-proclaimed "Beat Poet/Still Hippie/Not-Dead-Yet Person", and will be commemorated by the release of his latest album 'LUCKY US'.
